1. It gives us opportunity to mingle with the people. Riding public transportation, getting lost, learning the way of life in that place---i love learning! This is adventure.
2. It usually is cheaper. If you want to have fun and you don't have much money, then do it yourself!

Before Doing it make sure you have read and researched. It is also a must that you have a plan (kahit di masunod, okay lang. At least you have a plan :)
